Après la création de l’illustration Femme Phénix – voir billet précédent ici -, je suis entré en contact avec une petite société d’éditions française qui se lançait sur le marché. Je ne me souviens plus de son nom, et ce n’est pas bien grave parce que j’ai beaucoup perdu de temps avec elle !
Quand j’ai rencontré les personnes qui la géraient, ils m’ont proposé un truc fumant en voyant l’illustration que j’avais faîte. Il me proposait de créer quatre femmes associées à un animal, des sortes de super-héroïne, sur lesquelles ils allaient créer un comics.
Le projet avait l’air sympa, je me suis lancé dans l’aventure. En partant de la base de l’illustration de la femme phénix, j’ai créé trois autres femmes avec, à chaque fois, un animal. Il y avait une asiatique avec un chat, une caucasienne avec un loup, une latino avec un tigre blanc et ma fameuse femme européenne et son aigle – qui devrait s’appeler du coup la femme aigle, mais bon, je préfère femme phénix, je n’y peux rien ! -.
Ces quatre illustrations assemblées ne faisaient qu’un grand poster au final. C’était assez sympa à réaliser…
En fin de compte, les gars étaient surtout des pauvres charlots, et le projet n’a jamais vu le jour !... Forcément…
Alors, je suis resté avec ces illustrations sur les bras. J’en ai offert deux. La femme chat et la femme loup. Ça tombe bien, c’étaient les moins réussies !
Les deux autres sont encadrées et trônent sur les murs de mes parents, dans leur maison… À chaque fois, je les regarde avec délectation car j’en suis vraiment très fier !
Pour ma femme tigre, j’ai utilisé le même procédé et la même méthode de travail que sur la femme phénix. Acrylique, crayons de couleurs… Autant, je trouve le visage de la femme phénix vraiment terrible, aussi celui-ci est un peu moins réussi… Par contre, le tigre est nettement au-dessus, au niveau qualité, de la réalisation de l’aigle.
La pose est aussi beaucoup plus provocatrice. Bizarrement, c’est aussi le travail sur les plis de la chemise dont je suis le plus fier !

Au final, ces femmes animaux auront été une belle expérience graphique qui m’a permis de réaliser pour un temps une série d’illustrations vraiment très… personnelles !

After the creation of the Phoenix Woman’s illustration - see previous ticket here -, I contacted a small French company of publishing which launched on the market. I do not remember any more its name, and it is not very serious because I lost a lot of time with it!
When I met the persons who managed it, they proposed me a smoking trick by seeing the illustration that I had summit. He suggested me creating four women associated with an animal, sorts of super-heroine, on which they were going to create a comics.
The project had a nice sight, I dashed into the adventure. By leaving the base of the illustration of the phoenix woman, I created three other women with, every time, an animal. There was an Asian with a cat, a Caucasian with a wolf, a Latin with a white tiger and my famous European girl with a eagle - who should be called in fact the eagle woman, well, I prefer phoenix woman, I cannot do anything about this!-.
These four assembled illustrations made only a big poster in the end. It was rather nice to realize … After all, the lads were especially poor cretins men, and the project was never born!... Of course…
Then, I stayed with these illustrations for nothing. I offered two. The cat woman and the wolf woman. That falls well, it were the least successful!
Two others are framed and hang on the walls of my parents’ house… Every time, I look at them with enjoyment because I am really very proud of them!
For my tiger woman, I used the same process and the same method of work as on the phoenix woman. Acrylic, coloured pencils… Best I find the phoenix woman’s face really terrible, also this one is a little less made a success… On the other hand, the tiger is sharply above, at the level quality, of the realization of the eagle.
The pose is also much more provocative. Bizarrely, it is also the work on the folds of the shirt of which I am most proud!

In the end, these animals women will have been a beautiful graphic experience which allowed me to realize for a while a series of really very personal illustrations!

En 1997, après plusieurs années déjà à avoir travaillé en tant qu’illustrateur indépendant, je voulais enfin prendre un peu de temps et réaliser une illustration personnelle. Depuis 1993 et mon illustration sur le Copilote Tomcat F-14, je n’avais jamais repris de temps pour ce genre de choses.
Pour créer cette illustration, j’avais envie de marier une jolie pin-up et un animal – sans doute les restants des heures passées à faire de l’étude documentaire à l’école Émile Cohl ! -. Je suis parti de 2 photos différentes pour la femme, une pour le corps et l’autre pour le visage. Une 3e photo m’a servi de base pour l’aigle.
À cette époque, j’aimais beaucoup les illustrations de Boris Vallejo et c’est ce qui m’a inspiré pour réaliser cette peinture.
J’ai crayonné le dessin sur un Canson épais et j’ai tendu ma feuille sur une planche de bois à l’aide de bandes de papiers kraft gommé. J’ai utilisé de la peinture acrylique Liquitex avec toute une série de pinceaux. Un peu de peintures aérographe Spectralite du Dr. Ph. Martin’s et quelques crayons de couleurs Rexel Cumberland de Derwent Artists.

Je ne savais pas quel nom donner à cette illustration. Le titre est venu spontanément à la vue de ce fond enflammé et de cette dominante de couleur chaude autour de la femme.
Au final, je reste toujours content de cette œuvre et je prends toujours un réel plaisir à la regarder. Je ne sais pas si aujourd’hui je pourrai refaire une illustration comme celle-là – ou comme les 3 suivantes que j’aie réalisées à la suite – car ma façon de travailler a changé, tout comme mon style.
Néanmoins, je ne désespère pas ! Il y a un temps pour tout, non ?

In 1997, after several years already to have worked as independent illustrator, I finally wanted to spend a little time and realize a personal illustration. Since 1993 and my illustration Co-pilot Tomcat F-14, I had never spent time again for this kind of things.
To create this illustration, I wanted to marry one attractive pin-up and an animal - doubtless the remainders of hours spent to make some documentary study at Émile Cohl’ school! -. I left 2 differents photos for the woman, one for the body and the other one for the face. A 3rd photo served me as base for the eagle.
In this period, I liked very much Boris Vallejo's illustrations and that's what inspired me to realize this painting.
I sketched the drawing on a thick Canson paper and I stretched out my sheet on a wooden board with strips of kraft papers erased. I used acrylic painting Liquitex with a whole series of paintbrushes. A few paintings airbrush Spectralite of the Dr. Ph. of Martin and some coloured pencils Rexel Cumberland of Derwent Artists.

I did not know which name to give to this illustration. The title came spontaneously to the sight of this ardent background and this dominant of warm color around the woman.
In the end, I always remain satisfied with this work and I always take a real pleasure to look at it. I don’t know if today I can do it again an illustration as that one - or as 3 following ones whom I realized in the continuation - because my way of worked changed, quite as my style.
Nevertheless, I do not discourage! One day for everything, don’t you think so?
